‘Daughters’ Documentary Scores Netflix Deal

“…Daughters cleaned up at the Sundance Film Festival. With the “Audience Award in Documentary Competition,” plus the overall “Festival Favorite” award in pocket and the glowing articles from movie reviewers at Essence, Variety and the BBC, the studios came calling.

Netflix beat them all, and now, Patton is rubbing shoulders with A-listers like Kerry Washington, an executive producer on “Daughters,” all throwing their weight behind the film. She said she’s now poised to do much more than she ever anticipated. 

“I knew that, as a Black woman, that I’m usually not in those rooms and not usually invited to those spaces,” said Patton. “And so I said when I am invited, ‘I’m going to always be prepared, always be ready, and I’m going to command the attention of why I have put this film out.’”
