This post was originally published on March 16th, 2020. We are leaving it here at the moment, but it will not be updated. For the latest information on how Girls For A Change is adapting our programming, please visit our official COVID-19 Announcement page for more details.

In response to the rising concerns surrounding COVID-19, as an organization, Girls For A Change recognizes the rapidly developing health concerns has affected our community. Please know that we are committed to protecting our participants, interns, volunteers, and staff.

We are taking precautions that align with local and statewide recommendations, which has resulted in us suspending of ALL Girls For A Change programs for a minimum of two weeks. After that time, we will reassess and update. We are keeping close contact with city officials and will be communicating with parents and partners often.

We did not make this decision lightly, but are committed to the health and safety of the community during the COVID-19 outbreak.

For local updates, please refer to the city’s COVID-19 webpage and The Virginia Department of Health’s website.

According to the CDC – the majority of those who contract COVID-19 have mild symptoms with fever, cough, and shortness of breath. However, a small percentage of cases are severe, particularly in elderly people and those with pre-existing conditions such as heart disease.

Please continue to practice personal health habits:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Stay home when you are sick
