Job Description

The Director of Development is a key member of GFAC’s leadership team, responsible for creating, implementing, and leading a comprehensive fundraising strategy that sustains and grows the organization’s impact. This role combines high-level strategic thinking with hands-on relationship-building, grant writing, campaign management, and donor engagement. The Director of Development will collaborate closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to expand a strong and diverse funding base—including individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and government grants—to support GFAC’s mission and programs.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute an annual development plan with clear goals, timelines, and metrics.
  • Lead all fundraising efforts, including individual giving, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and events.
  • Expand and diversify revenue streams, with an emphasis on unrestricted, multi-year funding.

Board & Partner Engagement

  • Support the CEO in developing and activating the fundraising capacity of the Board of Directors.
  • Provide fundraising coaching, training, and tools to board members and staff.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with community and corporate stakeholders.
  • Attend and report out at Board meetings, and committee meetings as needed, every other month.

Communications & Campaign

  • Partner with the communications team to develop compelling fundraising appeals, campaign messaging, and impact storytelling.
  • Lead end-of-year giving, Giving Tuesday, and other annual campaigns.

Systems & Data Management

  • Maintain accurate donor records and reporting using CRM or donor management software.
  • Analyze fundraising performance and provide regular reports to the CEO and board.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure organizational compliance with nonprofit requirements and regulations (ex. Most recent 990 is completed, regularly secure financial reports, ensure Guide Star is up to date, Department of Agriculture renews, NAP Credits, annual financial audit, etc.)

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

  • Build and manage relationships with donors and prospects at all levels, ensuring meaningful engagement and retention.
  • Oversee donor communications, gift acknowledgments, and impact reporting.
  • Coordinate donor cultivation events and special campaigns.
  • Welcome donors and community leaders to the GFAC building and program sites.

Grant Writer Supervision & Team Collaboration

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to the Grant Writer and/or the Development Manager, ensuring alignment with GFAC’s fundraising goals and organizational priorities.
  • Oversee the grant pipeline, ensuring timely submission of high-quality proposals and reports.
  • Review and edit grant materials for consistency, clarity, and impact. Approve all final grants prior to submission. 
  • Foster collaboration between the Grant Writer and/or the Development Manager, and program staff to ensure accuracy of content and compelling storytelling.
  • Facilitate regular check-ins and performance evaluations to support professional development and accountability.
  • Ensure grant strategies align with overall development goals and funder engagement efforts.
  • In the absence of a grant writer, write grant applications and reports.

Creative Execution (Highly Recommended)

  • The ability to craft aesthetically pleasing proposals through Canva, Adobe Pro, or other graphic software.

Team Work

  • Work with GFAC teams and community members to identify information needs and appropriate methods for communicating with the funders. 
  • Meet regularly with community-based organizations (CBOs), local leaders and other notables to keep them informed about the programs’ success and challenges.
  • Work with technical advisors, field teams and others to develop messages for the community and funders. 
  • Collaborate with field teams to roll out messages and collaborate with the design, monitoring and evaluation team to monitor the messages’ effectiveness.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with GFAC Full-time staff members.

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of Girls For A Change and a strong commitment to racial and gender equity.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in major gifts, grant writing, and donor cultivation.
  • Strong strategic thinker with a track record of designing and executing successful development plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in persuasive storytelling.
  • Comfortable working in a small, agile team and managing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor databases, and CRM systems.
  • Experience working with and in historically underrepresented communities preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the nonprofit sector, including programmatic, financial, and governance aspects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary

  • Salary position based on experience: $70,000 - 80,000

  • Paid Time Off – 10 days vacation (to be available after 90 days of employment) and must be used within each  fiscal year of employment, will not carry over
  • Sick Days – 5 days (to be available immediately upon the start of employment) and must be used within each employment, will not carry over

  • Paid Holidays / Closing – recognized federal state holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Friday and Monday Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas (to occur during break 10-12 days) decided by the CEO, Mental Health Days 3- 5 per year ( decided by the CEO yearly)
