Job Overview
We are seeking an early to mid-career Development Manager to join our team at Girls For A Change. As the Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in generating recurring income for our organization by researching, identifying, and securing values aligned funding, primarily through the creation of compelling grant proposals and building relationships with grantmakers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of nonprofit operations, grant development, and be adept at translating GFAC’s visions into successful funding proposals.

Job Location
Hybrid: While this position will be allowed to work from home, occasional travel and in-person meetings with team members, donors, and community leaders will be a core aspect of this work. Quarterly program observation will also be required.
Job Responsibilities
Grant Management:
- Grant Prospect Research:
- Identify and research potential funding opportunities for nonprofit clients from a variety of sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporate entities.
- Stay informed about emerging trends and priorities within the nonprofit sector to inform grant strategy.
- Proposal Development:
- Write clear, persuasive, and well-organized grant proposals, ensuring alignment with GFAC’s values and objectives and the requirements of each funding opportunity.
- Work collaboratively with GFAC’s diverse team, including consultants, program leaders, and finance, to gather necessary information for proposal development.
- Grant Management:
- Coordinate the submission of grant proposals, ensuring all required documents and supporting materials are included and submitted on time.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all grant submissions, awards, and reporting deadlines.
- Work closely with program staff to monitor grant-funded projects, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting obligations.
- Relationship Building:
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with funders, program officers, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and stories that strengthen relationships with current and potential donors.
- Grant Reporting:
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports, detailing project progress, outcomes, and financial information as required by funders.
- Ensure compliance with reporting guidelines and address any issues or concerns raised by funders.
Donor Management:
- Process donations and prepare timely acknowledgment letters and tax receipts.
- Maintain donor database (Little Green Light), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts through mailings, reports, and updates.
Events and Communications:
- Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising events and donor gatherings
- Draft fundraising emails, newsletters, and donor-facing materials in collaboration with communications staff
- Help maintain fundraising calendar, deadlines, and stewardship touchpoints.
- Attend youth program events every other month to ensure connection with, and insight to, our target population. This could include events outside of normal business hours such as evenings and weekends.
Administrative & Team Support:
- Schedule donor meetings and assist with development-related correspondence.
- Track and report key fundraising metrics for team meetings and board reports.
- Support other development projects as needed.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure organizational compliance with state and industry regulations (i.e. registration with the SCC, registering with the VA Department of Agriculture, updating GFAC’s Guidestar profile, etc.).

Team Work
- Work with GFAC teams and community members to identify information needs and appropriate methods for communicating with the funders.
- Meet regularly with community-based organizations (CBOs), local leaders and other notables to keep them informed about the program success and challenges.
- Work with technical advisors, field teams and others to develop messages for the community and funders.
- Collaborate with field teams to roll out messages and collaborate with the design, monitoring and evaluation team to monitor the messages’ effectiveness.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with GFAC Full-time staff members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, etc.) preferred.
- Proven experience in grant writing with a focus on supporting nonprofit organizations.
- Strong understanding of the nonprofit sector, including programmatic, financial, and governance aspects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary
- Salary position based on experience $60,000 - $70,000
Benefits
- Paid Time Off – 10 days’ Vacation (to be available after 90 days of employment) and must be used within each fiscal year of employment, will not carry over
- Sick Days – 5 days (to be available immediately upon the start of employment) and must be used within each of employment, will not carry over
- Retirement - up to 4% of employer contribution (to be available after one year after employment)
- Life Insurance – free after 90 days of employment
- Reimburse Healthcare coverage – available immediately upon start of employment per ACA
- Paid Holidays / Closing – recognized federal state holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Friday and Monday Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas (to occur during break 10-12 days) decided by the CEO, Mental Health Days 3- 5 per year ( decided by the CEO yearly)
