Girl Action Team: Black Girls, Periodt! w/ Nappy Nerd

Event Series (See All)

February 26th at 5:30 pm 7:30 pm EST

Black Girls, Period is a joyful, culture-centered creative experience designed for Black girls in grades 6–12 who are ready to express themselves, explore their identity, care for their mental wellness, and build community through art. From January to May, girls gather every Thursday evening at Girls For A Change for hands-on mixed-media art, youth-centered literacy, storytelling for social change, and trauma-informed wellness practices. Each month offers a unique theme—identity, Black girl joy, emotional health, activism, and resoration—supported by dynamic workshops such as Afro-textured portrait collages, freedom zines, feelings maps, social-justice posters, and a May showcase for families. Sessions begin with snacks, music, journaling, and grounding rituals, and end with affirmations and community lifting. Throughout the series, girls receive creative tools, weekly take-home “girl props,” and guided support from teaching artists, mental-health–informed educators, and advocates.
