Daughters "Stories That Matter" Screening

Join the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center and the Johns Hopkins Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Graduate Film and Media program for the launch of the “Stories that Matter” film screening series.

The series opens with a screening of the Netflix documentary film Daughters, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award®, nominated for the BAFTA award, and won both the Audience Award and the Festival Favorite Award at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is the story of four young girls as they prepare for a special Daddy-Daughter Dance with their incarcerated fathers, as part of a unique fatherhood program in a Washington, D.C. jail. A moving story of empathy and forgiveness, Daughters is a result of a rigorous eight-year documentary journey by co-directors Angela Patton and Natalie Rae. Co-Director Natalie Rae will attend the inaugural screening and participate in a conversation following the film along with special guests.

With the series anchored at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center, film screenings will take place in Washington, D.C. in the Center’s 375-seat theater. Certain films will also be presented at Johns Hopkins campuses in Baltimore, Maryland, and in Bologna, Italy.
