You must read and follow all information and rules to participate as a vendor at the Girls For A Change Joy Market.
Please follow the step below to complete your vendor application.

We are accepting all types of vendors: artisans, curators, crafters, second-hand/vintage, jewelry makers, etc.

- Email info@girlsforachange.orgYou must complete the application. We do not take e-mail or voicemail messages as reservation requests. Registration closes at 11:59 pm on Monday, October 2.

Documents you will need to upload for the application:
- Copy of your Drivers License or photo ID
- Business certification (optional): explain if you do not have a copy of your certificate.
- Logo (optional)
- Liability Insurance
- Once your application is received, processed, and approved, you will receive an email in 24 hours to confirm your payment and participation.
If we cannot reach you, we will leave a message and you will have 48 hours to respond. If we do not hear back from you, the space will be offered to the next person in line. We only have 15 spots.
The RVA Community will be invited to Shop With Us …
The community is invited to shop at the “Joy Market,” a vibrant marketplace full of local creators, designers, collectors, curators, DJs, and food trucks. Virginia Union University college students can enjoy discounts on food and treasures by presenting a school ID from VUU and surrounding colleges.
GFAC will kick off the weekend on Friday, October 6th, by heading to the Virginia Living Learning Center on the campus of Virginia Union University (VUU). From 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the venue will transform into a vibrant marketplace where shoppers and creators unite. Experience a live DJ, indulge in food from diverse trucks, and explore creations from local artisans. Spend hours meandering through aisles of unexpected treasures while supporting local creators, designers, collectors, and curators. This event is open to the community, and VUU students are eligible for discounts on food and treasures—just present your school ID during purchases.
Girls For A Change Joy Market has received a great amount of support from the community and local media.
Your vendor participation fee/ includes:
- One (1) reserved space as a vendor at The Joy Market
- Free Parking
- Promotion of your business on GFAC social media platforms
- Limited duplication of similar items
- Free access to the community
- College students interested in vintage and sustainable wear
- Indoor venue
- On the campus of Virginia Union University located in downtown Richmond
- Check the list of what you’re allowed to sell.
- Make sure you have a valid ID.
- Get a Virginia’s Seller’s Permit
- Read the rules and regulations.
- Fill out the application.

Artisan/Retail Vendors: Any business wishing to sell non-food items (jewelry, clothing, candles, paper goods, home decor, accessories, art, etc.). Handmade items are preferred; resale is allowed with a valid seller's permit as well as certificates of exemption for each of your vendors. The seller's permit identifies you with your state as a collector of sales tax.
Food Vendors: Any vendors wishing to sell food with Virginia restaurant licenses and permits. Three of the most important permits that let you sell food to your community include the food handlers license, food facility health permit, and seller’s permit.

MARKET LOCATION: Virginia Union University |1500 N. Lombardy St, Richmond, VA 23220
SET UP: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Indoors
Virginia Living and Learning Center
MARKET HOURS: The market is open to the public from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
ADMISSION: free entry
FREE PARKING: The market offers free public parking in the parking lot
(reference map and signage for assistance.)
WEATHER: The event is inside; however, in case of inclement weather and we have to cancel, all funds will be returned within 3-5 business days.
Visitors Parking ( will add the link to the website page that has directions and parking )
GFAC signage will be posted, and volunteers will assist with parking set up and break down.
Approved guest/visitor parking is available. Approved guests/visitors must check in at the security booth located on Graham Road before entering campus and must be approved as a guest or visitor to receive a temporary parking pass.

Traffic & Parking Regulations
- Access control to campus is limited to Graham Road Entrance Only until further notice. All vehicular traffic will enter and exit campus through the Graham Road Entry.
- The speed limit for all campus roadways is 15 mph unless specifically posed otherwise at a given location.
- Any accident on the campus involving a motor vehicle must be reported to the campus police immediately, regardless of the extent of damages involved.
- Any accident involving university-owned vehicles must be reported to campus police immediately.
- Double parking or obstructing drives, walkways, doors, or other vehicles is prohibited.
- Parking in a fire lane or within 15 feet of a fire hydrant is prohibited.
- Parking or driving on curbs, lawns, landscaped areas, or walkways is prohibited.
Rules and Guidelines
INDOOR MARKET: Vendor spaces are all indoors. No outdoor spaces are available.
BUSINESS LICENSE: Must be accessible at all times during the event. If selling food, a permit from the Virginia Health Department is required.
VENDOR SPACE AND SIZE: Each vendor space is approximately 8’ x 6’, which includes one table, square feet, depending on the venue's configuration. Vendor items must stay within their assigned vendor space.
TABLES: The Joy Market will provide one 8-foot table at no additional cost. Feel free to bring your table and set up to work with your vending space.
DRESSING ROOM: Two dressing rooms are received for clothing vendors to share.
ITEMS TO BRING: Vendors must provide their table ( one 8-foot tabel is available ), chairs, displays, and items to sell. We recommend bringing carts or dollies to transport Items to your space. Vendor spaces are reasonably far from the loading zone, but carts are highly recommended. Please plan accordingly and bring carts and people to help.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES: The markets will not offer free food. Please visit the food trucks. We encourage vendors to pack lunch. Bottled water and snacks can be purchased in the foyer.
FOR CLOTHING VENDORS: If you will be selling clothing, vendors are not allowed to put clothing on the ground in piles or boxes. All clothing must be on tables or hung on clothing racks. *Bring your clothing rack, shelving, and tablecloths.
POWER: Vendor spaces for electricity are limited. An additional $20 fee to reserve electricity.
VENDOR Check-In: 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Please try to be on time or early, as failure to check in before 11:00 a.m. may result in the forfeiture of vendor space with no refund.
VENDORS ID: are required to show photo ID at vendor check-in. Name on ID must match the name provided on the vendor sign-up/application upon arrival.
VENDOR'S LICENSE: Must be displayed and visible at the vending station.
DIGITAL PAYMENTS AND ATMS: We encourage vendors to offer digital payment options such as Venmo, Cash App, and ApplePay. The market does not have an ATM on site. We encourage all vendors to bring change for buyers – ones, fives, tens, and quarters. Vendors are responsible for all transactions with buyers.
IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND A MARKET: If you can’t attend a market and want to transfer your space to someone else, you must notify Girls For A Change no less than five (5) days before the market with the name, email address and phone number of the person using your space. All vendors must be pre-approved before a space can be transferred. It is also required that all vendors receive, review, and approve the Vendor Rules & Guidelines before selling at the market. Girls For A Change will not assist in ‘selling’ your space to another vendor.
REFUND/ CANCELATION POLICY: Cancellation by Vendor must be in email. We regret that no refunds can be made in respect of cancellations less than 14 days before the date of the market. Cancellation by Vendor must be an email to info@girlsforachange.org.
NO ANIMALS ON CAMPUS: No Animals are allowed inside the Virginia Union Univerity Living and Learning Center.
ITEMS / SERVICES NOT ALLOWED AT THE MARKET: Only licensed food vendors can sell food or edible items. This includes anything that can be consumed by people or animals (bottled beverages, candy, prepackaged items, homemade treats, etc....).
The following items and services are NOT allowed at the Joy Market or sold at the market.
- Firearms, ammunition, or weapons of any kind
- Fireworks
- Animals for sale or trade
- Paraphernalia is commonly used or associated with the use of any drugs.
- CBD products
- MLM products
- Illegal or questionable items not normally obtained on the open market
- Mass-produced items - Contact us if you have questions about items in this category
- Physical or cosmetic services (massage, piercing, teeth whitening, etc...)
- Political campaign promotional materials and signage
- Promotional goods and services that do not fit the flea market, vintage, yard sale style, handcrafted market model.
- Items that by sale, possession, or use violate City, County, State, or Federal Laws
- Open flames, lit candles, and burning incense are not allowed at any time in the market area, They can be sold.
- NO SMOKING IN THE MARKET! Smoking is not prohibited to be sold or used in the market area.
- NO ALCOHOL IN THE MARKET! Alcohol is not allowed to be sold or used in the market area.
- If you bring any of these items, you will be asked to leave the market and a refund will not be issued. Girls For A Change reserves the right to prohibit the display and sales of any items deemed inappropriate for the market by the market management or any items that are illegal/prohibited by law
ALL VENDOR MERCHANDISE SUBJECT TO REVIEW: All vendors and vendor merchandise are subject to review and approval by Girls For A Change to maintain the format of the flea market business model. Girls For A Change reserves the right to refuse any vendor application or merchandise.
LIABILITY: All vendors who participate at the Black Girl Rally “ Joy Market” hold harmless the Girls For A Change Coordinators, Volunteers, Staff, the venue and venue representatives, and market sponsors for any damage, loss, or theft to merchandise, displays, or personal property, or injury to their person or character, virtual or otherwise, regardless of cause resulting from their participation in this event.

Vendor Check-In, Load-In, and Parking
- Vendor Check-In is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
- The vendor check-in entrance closes at 11:30 a.m. sharp! If Reserved vendors do not check in by 11:30 a.m., their space will be reassigned to fill gaps in the market. If you are running late, you will not be able to set up or receive a refund.
- When the vendor check-in line opens at 9:30 am, ALL vendors must check in at that location to present thier picture ID or Driver's license, receive a wristband, and be directed to the loading area and vending station.
- WRISTBANDS: Only TWO (2) vendor wristbands will be issued per vendor space. All vendors and vendor helpers must have their wristbands fastened to their wrists before entering the loading zone and will only be allowed into the market area with a wristband ON between (10 a.m. -12 p.m). Wristbands must be worn at all times. Vendor helpers arriving after 10:00 am will be welcome for the earlier $3 admission to enter the market, or you need to meet them at the market entry if you have a wristband for them. There is a free market that will open at 12 p.m. for the community.
- Vehicles will be allowed to unload and load behind the Living Learning Center. After you unload your vehicle/s, you must park in the designated accessible parking area. Vendor cars will then be directed where to park and unload in the market area.
- If you signed up through the website or at the market, please bring your confirmation.
- Please be patient and carefully follow all verbal instructions from flea market staff during parking, space selection, and loading.
- Once you have parked, a staff member will help you select an available space.
- Open-market vendor spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved spaces will have the vendor’s last name on the assigned space.
- ACTIVE LOADING ONLY: MOVE VEHICLE AS SOON AS YOU ARE UNLOADED. Vendors will load all merchandise, tables, etc., and then move vehicles from the market loading zone to make room for the next vendor car in line to unload. Vendors are not permitted to set up their vendor spaces until after their vehicles have been moved from the loading zone.
- NO LOADING AFTER 11:15 a.m. ALL ITEMS MUST BE UNLOADED INTO VENDOR SPACES BY 11:15 a.m.
- ALL VEHICLES MUST BE MOVED OFF OF RIO GRANDE NO LATER THAN 11:30 a.m.
- All vendors must be set up and ready to sell by 11:45 a.m. The market opens to the public at noon.
- The Joy Market is not responsible if you receive a parking ticket.
Load-Out
- The flea market ends at 5:00 p.m. Vendors must remain open until the market closes. VENDORS MUST STOP SELLING AT 5 p.m.sharp.
- Free admission begins at 12:00 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.
- Vendors MUST pack up all items BEFORE pulling vehicles into loading zone. Do not take up a load-out parking space if you are not packed up and ready to load out.
- Vendor load-out begins at 5:00 p.m.
- Only ONE (1) vehicle will be allowed to load-out per space. If you have two (2) vehicles, load one vehicle, move it out of the market area, and then bring the 2nd vehicle in.
- Vehicles must display yellow loading permit in the front driver's side window.
- Vendor vehicles are not permitted to drive into the market area to unload until the road has been cleared of pedestrians and safe to proceed.
- All items must be cleared by 5:45 p.m. All vendor items must be removed at the end of the market and spaces must be free of all trash and items .
- There will be a $50 fine for leaving after 5:45pm and/or leaving any garbage and items in your space after the market..
- Girls For A Change t reserves the right to adjust/change market location, market configuration, vendor space configuration at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. Reserved vendor spaces will be reassigned at that time.
- Vendors will be notified via email of any changes.
Signage & Marketing Materials
There will be space available at the market information booth for outside events and business flyers. Please take any of these items to the information booth the morning of set up to continue to promote your business and market events .

- At the roundabout take the second exit to continue on North Lombardy St.
- Make a sharp left at the first street light.
- Make the first left onto Graham Road.
- Make the first left turn into Virginia Union University (Security Booth).
- Continue through the Security Booth and stay to your right and follow the road (you will go over 2 speed bumps).
- The Claude G. Perkins Living & Learning Center will be on the right .
To Park in the Rear Lot
